Surveillance systems installed in and and outside of establishments, and even at home, have become more common in the past few years. The practice withstood the protests and campaigns of privacy advocates around the world.

According to security experts, installing CCTVs and making people aware that such a system is there, recording their every move anytime of the day, helped in bringing down crime rates to almost half.

A person usually reconsiders the action, specially when committing a crime, when they know they're being watched. It also helps in making the quality of work higher for employees as they are conscious not to commit something that might cost them their jobs.

But some people argue that surveillance cameras are counter-productive. It becomes counter-productive in the sense that it leads people to become too conscious, uncomfortable that they are being watched. It also leads to people being less spontaneous, less innovative, less creative and less natural.

Many companies have installed such systems and disregarded the privacy issues in exchange for safer and more secure working environment. But in the process, the employees are becoming less of who they really are, and present themselves according to the standards of those watching them.
