Privacy and SurveillanceWorking on Privacy Issues with Your Household
If there's one thing that I get easily upset about, it's the way a lot of people do not know how to respect your private space and privacy. It's especially irritating when these people who don't know how to respect your privacy are the same people whom you share your home with.
Just imagine waking up in the morning only to realize that one of your folks is sitting on your bed, doing something with the computer. Call it being super sensitive, but I believe that it is outright disrespectful. Who wants to be around someone you are not intimate with during the middle of your sleep? Certainly not me. When it's the people inside your home whom you have very difficult privacy issues with, it gets very difficult to address this to them. This is because such confrontations could lead to divisiveness within your home if you are not careful with your words. It is understood that privacy has to be respected, but how are you going to address this? I believe the best way to approach this kind of issue (and other domestic issues as well) is to be just plain honest about it. This does not mean that you have to be confrontational. Choose your words carefully so that you do not indiscriminately hurt the feelings of your peers. What matters in these discussions is that you get to send your message across without any doubts and without any gray areas. In this regard, it is also essential that we also learn to value the privacy of the people whom we share our home with. Learning how to knock on the door before entering, not going through their personal stuff, and not get too involved in extremely personal matters concerning their lives are just basic acts that we should all emulate if we want a peaceful coexistence within the household.
